Rosacea is more than visible redness. Persistent flushing and heightened reactivity can reflect the interaction between inflammatory activity, vascular instability, microbiome imbalance and weakened barrier function.
When these factors persist, the skin can remain dehydrated, sensitive and prone to recurrent flushing. Redness may become more visible, the barrier may become less resilient and the skin can react more intensely to internal and external triggers.
In this case supervised by Grace Buckhurst, Aesthetic Therapist at Facial Sculpting Clinic, the objective was not to address redness in isolation. The priority was to support the biological functions that help the skin remain calm, hydrated and resilient over time.
Clinical focus

In this case, diffuse redness across the cheeks and lower face was accompanied by dehydration, sensitivity and recurrent flushing. The skin showed signs of persistent inflammatory activity, vascular instability and compromised barrier function.
Photographs were taken at T0 baseline and T8, week 8. The protocol was conducted under the supervision of Grace Buckhurst and combined daily oral intake of The Skin Biotic with twice-daily application of The Gentle Cleanser and The Active Cream, alongside eight sessions of Dermalux LED phototherapy.
The clinical priorities were:

How AWvi supported the skin
The Skin Biotic addressed rosacea-prone skin from within by supporting gut microbiome balance, inflammatory signalling along the gut-skin axis and the biological mechanisms linked to barrier integrity. In this case, its role was to support internal regulation, reduce systemic inflammatory pressure and contribute to calmer, more resilient skin.
The Gentle Cleanser supported the topical phase by removing impurities while preserving the skin barrier, physiological pH and surface microbiome. For flushing-prone skin, cleansing must avoid intensifying redness or stripping protective lipids, particularly when the skin is already dehydrated, sensitive and reactive.
The Active Cream reinforced the final phase of the protocol by restoring hydration, replenishing skin-compatible lipids and protecting the skin against environmental stressors that can sustain redness and reactivity. Its role was to support comfort, moisture retention and barrier recovery.
Dermalux LED phototherapy complemented the protocol by providing controlled in-clinic support for visible redness and inflammatory activity.
Together, the protocol reflected AWvi’s inside-out and outside-in approach: supporting the internal systems that influence skin behaviour while reinforcing the external barrier required for tolerance, hydration and visible recovery.

Visible evolution
After eight weeks, visible redness had progressively decreased. Flushing appeared less frequent and less intense, while the skin looked calmer, more even and less reactive.
The improvement was accompanied by better moisture retention and a more comfortable-looking barrier. This suggests a shift not only in the visible expression of redness, but also in the skin’s capacity to remain stable and recover more effectively.
This case illustrates why flushing should not be approached only as a vascular symptom. In rosacea-prone skin, recurrent redness often sits within a wider context of inflammation, barrier fragility, dehydration and microbiome imbalance.
By combining The Skin Biotic, The Gentle Cleanser and The Active Cream, the protocol helped support microbial balance, barrier resilience, hydration and visible calm.
