Visible pores, dullness, uneven texture and irregular pigmentation are often treated as isolated cosmetic concerns. Yet in sensitive skin, they can reflect a wider biological interplay involving dehydration, barrier imbalance, microbiome instability, irregular sebum distribution and disrupted surface renewal.
When these mechanisms reinforce one another, the skin can appear rougher and less uniform. Pores may become more noticeable, radiance can diminish and differences in tone and pigmentation may become more visible.
In this case supervised by Sarah Toone, Skin Aesthetics Practitioner, the objective was to support sensitive skin by improving hydration, reinforcing barrier function and promoting a smoother, brighter and more homogeneous complexion.
Clinical focus

Uneven skin texture, visible pores and irregular pigmentation can reflect a complex biological interplay involving barrier imbalance, dehydration, irregular sebum distribution, microbiome instability and disrupted surface renewal.
Photographs were taken at T0 baseline and T8, week 8. The protocol was conducted under the supervision of Sarah Toone and combined daily oral intake of The Skin Biotic nutraceutical, one sachet per day, with twice-daily application of The Gentle Cleanser, The Active Cream and The Power Serum.
The clinical priorities were:
→ Rebalance the gut-skin axis to support clearer, more resilient skin
→ Support skin microbiome stability to help regulate sensitivity and sebum
→ Reinforce barrier integrity to improve hydration and surface smoothness
→ Support natural renewal for visibly refined texture and pores
→ Maintain long-term skin balance through daily biological regulation
How AWvi supported the skin
The Skin Biotic supported sensitive, uneven skin from within by acting on the gut-skin axis, microbial diversity, immune balance and inflammatory pathways. In this case, its role was to support the internal conditions that influence hydration, renewal, barrier function, texture and visible radiance.
The Gentle Cleanser supported the topical phase by removing impurities, pollutants, oxidised residues and excess sebum without disrupting the microbiome or weakening the barrier. For sensitive, uneven skin, cleansing needs to clarify the surface while preserving comfort, hydration and surface resilience.
The Power Serum helped refine visible pores, smooth texture and restore a brighter, more even-looking complexion by supporting multi-layer hydration, barrier function and dermal matrix quality.
The Active Cream reinforced the final phase of the protocol by restoring hydration, strengthening the epidermal barrier and replenishing the lipid matrix. Its role was to improve comfort, texture, resilience and a more even-looking radiance.
Together, the protocol reflected AWvi’s inside-out and outside-in approach: supporting the internal systems that influence skin behaviour while reinforcing the external barrier required for smoother, brighter and more stable-looking skin.
Expert insight
“Sensitive skin with visible pores, uneven texture and pigmentation irregularities often reflects several interconnected imbalances rather than a single surface concern.
Barrier fragility, dehydration, microbial instability and inconsistent renewal can all influence how smooth, bright and uniform the complexion appears.
Over the eight-week protocol, the skin became visibly more refined, with smoother-looking texture, less noticeable pores and reduced contrast in areas of uneven pigmentation.
What stands out to me is the improvement in overall skin quality: the complexion appears calmer, brighter and better regulated.
This case demonstrates the value of supporting both the skin’s biological environment and its external barrier to achieve more resilient, consistent and visibly even results.”

Visible evolution
After eight weeks, the skin appeared smoother, brighter and more even. Pore visibility looked reduced, texture appeared more refined and irregular pigmentation was less visually dominant.
The change was not limited to one isolated sign. The overall complexion appeared calmer and better regulated, suggesting improved hydration, stronger barrier function and greater surface uniformity.
This case illustrates that refined texture is not only a question of exfoliation or surface smoothing. In sensitive skin, visible refinement depends on the quality of hydration, the stability of the barrier, microbiome balance and consistent surface renewal.
By combining The Skin Biotic, The Gentle Cleanser, The Power Serum and The Active Cream, the protocol helped support the skin’s biological environment and external barrier, creating more favourable conditions for smoother texture, reduced pore visibility and a more even complexion.
