Persistent facial redness is often perceived as a cosmetic concern. Yet in sun-damaged skin, it can reflect a deeper state of biological stress, where cumulative UV exposure, oxidative pressure, barrier fragility and vascular reactivity interact over time.
When repeated UV exposure, heat and environmental stress exceed the skin’s adaptive capacity, redness can become more persistent. Recovery slows, visible vessels may appear, tone becomes less even and texture can become rougher. With age-related barrier decline, the skin may also become less tolerant and slower to repair.
In this case supervised by Alexandra Mills, Medical Aesthetician and Skincare Expert, Founder of AM Aesthetics, the objective was to support inflamed, photodamaged skin by reducing biological stress, reinforcing barrier function and improving the skin’s capacity to recover.
Clinical focus

Facial redness here reflected inflamed, sun-damaged skin with vascular reactivity and weakened barrier resilience. Triggers included UV exposure, heat, exercise, alcohol, spicy foods, harsh cleansing and psychological stress.
Photographs were taken at T0 baseline and T4, week 4. The protocol was conducted under the supervision of Alexandra Mills and combined daily oral intake of The Skin Biotic nutraceutical, one sachet per day, with twice-daily use of The Gentle Cleanser and The Active Cream, alongside daily application of an SPF during daytime.
The clinical priorities were:
→ Daily UV protection and trigger control
→ Barrier repair to improve tolerance
→ Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support
→ Sebaceous regulation without stripping
→ IPL or vascular laser for fixed vessels
How AWvi supported the skin
The Skin Biotic supported inflamed, sun-damaged skin from within by helping maintain microbiome balance, gut-skin axis signalling and inflammatory regulation. In this context, its role was to support the internal conditions that influence skin reactivity, barrier resilience and recovery capacity.
The Gentle Cleanser supported the topical phase by cleansing without unnecessary barrier disruption. In photodamaged, redness-prone skin, cleansing must remove surface impurities while preserving microbiome integrity, physiological pH and barrier comfort.
The Active Cream reinforced the final phase of the protocol by restoring barrier lipids, supporting skin comfort and strengthening cutaneous resilience through biomimetic actives. For skin weakened by chronic UV exposure, barrier reinforcement is essential to help reduce visible reactivity and improve tolerance over time.
Together, the protocol reflected AWvi’s inside-out and outside-in approach: supporting the biological systems that influence skin behaviour while reinforcing the surface barrier required for visible recovery.

Visible evolution
After four weeks, the skin appeared calmer, less reactive and more stable. Redness looked less intense, tone appeared more even and the overall surface showed improved tolerance.
This case illustrates that sun reactivity should not be approached only as visible redness. In photodamaged skin, repeated UV exposure can contribute to oxidative stress, vascular instability, barrier weakness and delayed recovery. Supporting the skin therefore requires more than short-term correction.
By combining The Skin Biotic, The Gentle Cleanser and The Active Cream, with daily SPF and trigger control, the protocol helped create more favourable conditions for reduced reactivity, stronger barrier resilience and improved skin recovery over time.
